This is a wide ranging role covering team management, technical knowledge and support, design, product management, and new product development.
You will be joining a high quality, customer focused lighting manufacturer based in the UK, producing a commercial range of lighting with a focus on bespoke products. This is a company with a strong focus on culture, with a fun loving and hard working atmosphere and values it's employees.
As an Operations Manager, you will be liaising across all elements of the business, providing technical knowledge both internally and to customers. You will have a small team of direct reports consisting of production staff and buying assistants. As a team manager you will be leading projects on developing new products and bespoke offerings, managing the workload of the team on the production line and ensuring they are able to complete their work in a timely manner. As the business grows and you become more successful in the role, there is also continued opportunity for you to grow your team and take on added responsibility.
Having come from the lighting industry, you should have a good knowledge and understanding of lighting, luminaires, and the internal elements that make them up. Specific knowledge of LED boards, drivers, and general understanding of testing processes are a key element of this role. Knowledge and experience of engineering or electrical fittings within Lighting is also highly beneficial.
A senior person working within any of these areas in the lighting industry would find themselves at home, while someone with less technical knowledge would be able to be supported with training in order to get them up to speed.
As a hub of technical knowledge with a complete understanding of the products that you are working with, including their limitations, you will also be researching your competitors and working closely with the Sales and Marketing teams in order to produce New Product Development. Many of the responsibilities of a Product Manager will be incorporated into this role, including design, understanding the commercial viability of a product, and finding ways in which they can be sourced and produced more efficiently and cost effectively.
A candidate with both technical knowledge and a creative eye is ideal, and you will be hands on in creating designs for products, whether that be basic sketches and designs which are passed to your manufacturing partners, or those with excellent design skills may want to work a project through from scratch to finish.
You will be working closely with sourcing components for your in house manufacturing products, and sourcing specialised products from both Europe and China. Effective communication with these suppliers is essential, and you will be looking at processes and procedures internally within the business as well as with your trusted suppliers. This ensures that all elements of production and procurement move smoothly, and any issues that may arise will need to be identified and managed to avoid complications in the future.
This is a flexible role, with the potential to be involved with site visits and surveys, meeting with clients to discuss potential needs, lighting design and technical support when needed. Candidates should be able to adapt well to different situations, and be willing to get stuck in alongside their team!
